Maybe it is just me, but the combat in this game is some of the toughest fighting I have ever had to do in a game. All my characters are around level 13 or 14 and I am getting my ass kicked regularly. I think it takes away from the game at times and gets monotonous after awhile. But I keep playing.

What is your party mix? Where are you in the game right now?

Certain areas of the game can be difficult at certain levels. Sometimes you need to explore different areas and gain a few more levels then come back. Also your party mix can make a big difference in how the battles go. Answer the above questions and either I or someone else can give you some suggestions.

The party make up is: Bard, Lord, Fighter, Thief, Mage, Priest, and Vi; the other Thief took off when I went to Marten's Bluff. I have been tromping around Trynton and the Swamp for awhile.

Trynton should not be a problem at your level other than maybe some of the sprites. The swamp can be interesting with all the mosquito/fly variants and the queen ants. If you have not explored the Northern Wilderness (not sure on the name but it is north of the monastery), I would suggest going there.

I am assuming you are casting all the normal buffs (Enchanted Blade, Armorplate, Magic Screen, and Missile Shield). Also there is a really nice instrument in the swamp for your bard. It is a little out of the way but you should find it.

Hope this helps. If you need anything else, just ask.

Probably its your problem that you let the monsters surround you (especially in the swamp). Have x-ray up, and when you notice monsters approaching, then back up to a wall (run if necessary). Sometimes its best to even run the first combat rounds to get to a better position.

And be careful where you rest. Always back up in a corner, or better rest at Crock.

The combats are normally doable. I finished several ironman partys on expert. But i have lost two partys in the swamp (when suddenly some level 18 Dank Beetles attacked my level 12 party)

The Swamp is definetly a dangerous place, getting caught off gaurd is deadly. I still find Trynton a bit of a challenge; the Breeders were easier than those damn Rattkin Goons and Snipers. I also seem to get multiple attackers at the worst time (low on everything, lingering status effects). My helmet is off to those of you who have played AND finished multiple games, especially Ironman.

My back is always against the wall.
