Same as weapon discussion...
Discuss less used spells with awnsome abilities: Try not to include MM, Fball..etc. Breach and True Sight I am not sure? Here I go: 1/ Animate Dead This spell has been severly modified! At level 15 you can summon just 1 SKELETON WARRIOR!!!!! 2/ Cone of Cold..I am still unsure: when it saids does 1d4 + 1 per level caster, does it mean: a) (1d4+1)/level b) 1d4 + (1/level) Huge difference..which is it....I think it's a) same for Fire Storm 3/ Cloudkill...kills all Umber Hulks instantly....you knew that anyway 4/Chromatic Orb does acid damage at 12th level. Troll killer. HERE IS THE BEST ***** Spook ********** does fear save at -6 penalty at level 12+ !!!!!!!!!!!! I used this on dragons and it works!!!! |

"Cloud Effect" spells are my absolute favorite. Cloudkill, DeathFog, Incendiary Cloud, & Abi Dalzim's Horrid Wilting to name a few (the best).
I use Stoneskin ALL THE TIME. (Great for my mage/thief as well with any mage/*** class). Identify is good so you don't have to spend money to found out what an item is (also works: Glasses of Identification, Scroll of Identification) Web and Entagle work REALLY WELL with the spells mentioned above(cloudkill, etc) Summoning Elementals sux compared to priests, but if you don't have a priest they work well(but then again, you'd have to sacrifice those slots for summoning that you could use for your cloud spells!) Early in the game, Monster Summons 1,2 work well for tying up the enemy while you do your REAL work. (Ahhh....Fodder) ------------------ Let's get'em guen! Quote:

Summon 2 is defintely good as those Ogres wiped out chapter 1 for me!
Most you mentioned are over kills? Does anyone use Spook??? It makes Dragons flee in terror. oh mind control devices(illithid stronghold) works on Irenicus! |

As for the Animate Dead spell..
Below level 15, you get 2 monsters. 1 of those can cast the spell "Animate Dead" When that is cast, you get 2 more monsters. 1 of those can cast the spell "Animate Dead". When that is cast, you get 2 more monsters. 1 of those can cast the spell "Animate Dead". When that is cast, you get 2 more monsters. 1 of those can cast the spell "Animate Dead". When that is cast, you get 2 more monsters. 1 of those can cast the spell "Animate Dead". See a pattern? Eventually, you could have 30 monsters under your control. I know your not supposed to be able to control more than five monsters at one time, BUT, technically the last ones summoned are under the control of the monster that summoned them which is under control of the monster that summoned it, which is under control of the monster that summoned it, which is under control of the monster that summoned it, Etc. This I believe is a cheese method because it's a loop hole in the system. ------------------ Let's get'em guen! Quote:

I shall only cover mage spells.
When my mages hit Lvl 12 and beyond, I switch to Chromatic Orb all the way. I only use Magic Missile from Lvl 10-12, because the petrification can destroy items on the enemy. Items that I want. :/ Protection from Magical Energy, for all those pesky Area of Effect spells. Emotion, nothing like beating on a sleeping baby. Works only on non-undead humanoids by the way. Remove/Resist Fear, lasts one hour, makes you fearless, bring on the Symbol of Fears baby! Contingency, not sure if many use this spell, but I do. I set it to cast Dispel Magic on my mage if he/she ever gets helpless( stunned, dominated, held, etc... ...), great lifesaver. Domination, turns the enemies against each other. Heehee. ------------------ If not a Sorcerer, then a Paladin. |

When you cast animate dead, you usually get a mist of some sort and another monster. The mist can cast animate dead to summon another mist who can cast animate dead, and so on.

What about my 1st question?
Does 1d4 +1 per level mean a) (1d4) + 1/level b) (1d4+1)/level |

1d4 +1 means that the spell or whatever does 1d4 of base damage per level plus one point of damage extra for every level of the caster so 15th lvl mage would do 15d4 + 15 points of damage Is that what you wanted to know? ------------------ Bristowe, Master Assassin "Everyone dies sooner or later, why not sooner?"
