This is from the Dreamcatcher Game Support site (this is all they've got for now...)

(A) Does my computer meet the System Requirements of Dungeon Lords?

The System Requirements for Dungeon Lords are as follows:

OPERATING SYSTEM
* Windows 98
* Windows Me
* Windows 2000
* Windows XP

SYSTEM RAM
* 256 MB

VIDEO CARD
* DirectX Compliant Video Card with 64 MB

SOUND CARD
* DirectX Compliant Sound Card

To identify your computer parts:

1. Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag in the Open, and then click OK.
2. In the System tab under System Information, look for Operating System to determine your Operating System.
3. In the System tab under System Information, look for Memory to determine your System RAM.
4. In the Display tab under Device, look for Name and Manufacturer to determine your Video Card.
5. In the Sound under Device, look for Name, and under Driver, look for Provider to determine your Sound Card

(B) PROBLEM:

My game randomly freezes or crashes to the desktop

RESOLUTION:

Perform each suggestion in the order listed below. Test the game after each suggestion:

a. RESTART YOUR COMPUTER USING A CLEAN-BOOT PROCEDURE

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Place your cursor in the Open box, type msconfig and click OK.
3. Under the General tab, click Selective Startup.
4. Below the Selective Startup option, click to clear the following check boxes:
* Process SYSTEM.INI File
* Process WIN.INI File
* Load Startup Items
5. Under the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
6. Click OK, and then click Restart.
7. Once your computer restarts and the notification window for the System Configuration appears, place a checkmark in the box next to "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" and click the OK button.

b. UNINSTALL AND REINSTALL THE GAME (note: in my demo install, DL *doesn't* appear in the control panel list!)

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. In the list of Currently installed programs, click your game to select it, and then click Uninstall or Change/Remove.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen to uninstall the game.
5. Restart your computer using a Clean-Boot procedure.
6. Insert the game CD-ROM into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
7. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation process.

c. If the installation does not begin automatically:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type drive:\setup.exe, where drive is the drive letter of the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
3. Click OK.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation process.

d. REDUCE HARDWARE ACCELERATION

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Display.
3. On the Settings tab, click the Advanced button.
4. Click the Troubleshoot tab.
5. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider two notches to the left of Full (the Disable all cursor and advanced drawing accelerations setting).
6. Click OK, and then click OK again.

e. REDUCE SOUND ACCELERATION

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Place your cursor in the Open box, type dxdiag and click OK.
3. Under the Sound tab, in the DirectX Features section, change the Hardware Sound Acceleration Level to Basic acceleration.
4. Click Exit.

f. DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE MOST RECENT VERSION OF DIRECTX

To download the latest version of DirectX, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dir...ds/default.asp

g. SCAN YOUR COMPUTER FOR VIRUSES

NOTE: If you already have an antivirus program installed, before you scan your computer for viruses, remember to update your antivirus program with the latest signature files. Most software companies that create antivirus programs release a new signature file each month. After you obtain the latest signature files, scan your computer. For help obtaining the antivirus signature files, contact the antivus software manufacturer.

If you do not have antivirus software installed, you may use Symantec's online virus scanning utility:

http://www.symantec.com/cgi-bin/securitycheck.cgi

If you have cleaned your computer from viruses, remove, and then reinstall the game.

Thanks for posting this, jsalsb While it looks like it's for the full game, it should be useful.

Although I'm a little concerned by the "run msconfig, disable everything" step. Seems like they're using a double-barrelled shotgun to kill a snail. And msconfig doesn't exist on all versions of Windows... I think it disappeared in Win2k.

Actually, I'm really concerned by that step. Running through the steps they show, I see that they want me to disable my antivirus, my firewall, and a few other less important things. Scotty's gettin' nervous now...

Minor edit: Point e, bullet 2, should reference dxdiag, not dxiag.

Let's see what else comes up

That really doesn't sound good :/

Games should work with the things that you need to have running on your computer such as antivirus and firewall!

Isn't this game supposed to have multiplayer function over the internet? Over the internet with no antivirus and firewall?!?!?
