I usuall give my characters my real first name, especially in computer games like this, assuming that they are relatively similar to me (similar race, same gender and such) becuase I feel it brings you closer to the story, plus "Ken" is not a bad video game name anyway, hey, it has been used before. I usually only give characters in video games, unlike in PnP games, a single name, the reason for this is that because of the way the game is scripted, characters would go around calling you "Cullen Trey" all the time, for example, like "hey whats up Cullen Trey", or "hey, can Cullen Trey come over?" It is just awkward and weird. As for other PnP games, I tend to use names from darker characters from fiction, games, or movies I like, since those characters are always my favorites. Names like: Wesker, Valentine, Deckard, and the like.

I almost always name my characters after characters from books. I must agree with Legolas, most of my names come from the Lord of the Rings, too. At the moment my main character is Elanor and in BG1 it was Arwen.

I like El Nenio! It´s a darn good name for a thief, especially a swashbuckler.

LotR is an everlasting resource for cool names (Gil-Galad is soooooo cool...).
I have played:
Gil-Galad - human paladin
Feanor - half-elf fighter
Elladan - elven archer
Yale - elven thief (Yale is, as far as i remember, a brand of locks!)
Next time, I will probably play a half-orc and call him Dubbya...Any suggestions for class/alignment/stat priority and so on?

First Cleric then switch to fighter) Why the hell would you do that???

I normally get names by manipulating typical british names or just using scandinavian ones (except for the Monk i'm gonna start which will carry my Chinese name)

Sorcerer (or Necromancer depended on his party members) - Rikard (Swedish but i didn't know)
BeastMaster - Damien
Wild Mage - Trizak (haven't started with him yet dunno how i got the name)
Fighter dualled to Mage - Mikaël (german not the reason why i got the name)
(Ranger) Cleric - Dolgan (from Feist's books)
Battlerager - Drugar (from Weis and Hickman's portal of death (or death gate)
Elven Sorcerer (when rikard is necromancer) - Aleatha (see above)
Blade - Paithan (dito)
Assassin (or Fighter-Thief) Iason (greek mythology)
Druid - Lyria
Paladin - Jerome (from a certain craig)
Ranger/Archer - Caelis

that's about it
i normally play single - multi player games
so i have a lot of characters
Rikard is the one who returns most but never as protagist (he's kinda like the Teacher and the Bhaalspawn is his apprentis and also i done the mage quest too often)

Maybe this is hokey, but I usually style names to sound like either mine or some friend's. So I twist them around a bit then use them.

I am currently playing a half-elf archer - female (I am female) - I named her Dyona (my name is Diane) Swiftbow (scratched my head over what to call an archer... in retrospect it wasn't very imaginative).

Another game that I was playing a male cleric got the name I post with here, after a good friend who goes by his last name Sevigny - his personality seemed to fit the character I had in mind. Although after I did some of the cleric quests I changed my mind on that!

Its great to see more women gamers. Well done!
