I have this half of a coconut shell I have planned to convert into a mug. The worst problem so far has been the less-than-optimal shape of said coconut shell, and especially its bottom. It falls over. I'm asking anyone who reads this to think of ways to make it not fall over and share them with me.

Make the bottom flatter, it shouldn't take much.
I'd suggest using a rasp or orbital sander to do it, don't take off too much, just a little bit. Another way would be to glue a circle of twine around the base, so it rests on on, effectively making it flat. Or you could glue a base plate to the bottom. All pretty easy to do, I'd suggest the twine though, since it's easyest, and least likely to detract from the look of the mug. One thing, clearing out all the fleash is very importaint, I bet you already knew that, but sealing is just as importaint, you want to use the right sort of sealer, or you might end up with a noxious mug.
