What is the maximum amount of monsters or men you can have on-screen in battle action without suffering lag? I currently have about three dozen of each, and a few spell casters in there...and there is terrible lag. How do I improve it, without taking NPCs away?

Current specs:

Pentium 4, 1.8Ghz
512 MB SDRAM
GeForce III, ti200

Larry,

Did I read that right that you have 3 dozen monsters AND 3 dozen men PLUS the spellcasters? The most I have seen in one combat in any mod is maybe 3 dozen total and most of them were kobolds that died QUICKLy with a couple of well placed fireballs. You may be stretching the limits of the engine with that many monsters and spellcasters all in one place.

I can offer two suggestions but both involve altering the forces. One is to have the monsters spawn in at timed intervals. You get the same number in eventually, but the number on screen at any one time is reduced. The second is to reduce the number of monsters by half but double their hitpoints.

Hmm...Good idea. I like that. I guess I'll have to settle with it. Still, I was opting for an entrance to the area where you see all these undead just kicking the tar outta all these humans...and it was going to make you go..."daaaaammmmnnnn!!!!!" Oh well.

I suppose having a cave where you go into and find yourself in the middle of a evil dragon convention is out, eh? Think about it...you step inside, look up, and you are in the middle of a dozen evil dragons like black, green, red, and blue. I'd piss my breeches real quick!

Use encounters instead of placing every monster manually.. that greatly improves preformance...

It's only really limited by your comp... the engine itself is expandable
