Okay, I haven't seen this'n discussed yet. I keep on trying everything I've got to get the Durlag's Tower DemonKnight, but I'm having no success. His magic resistance is so high, that I haven't been able to find any combination of spells that get him. I thought I'd use the mirror, but each time discovered that, no matter where my party was, they were duplicated, too. (I tried moving all my folks behind the mirror, putting the boots of speed and haste on one of my characters, making them invisible, and sending them down to expose the mirror. Invisible or not, the DemonKnight still sees them coming, and behind it or not my folks got duplicated.) I'm about ready to give up on this, and just take my spoils and leave. I've tried webs, horror, fireballs, cloudkills, wands of summoning, and just plain frontal attack. The guy still gets off unscathed. Any successful ideas?

Too true, Darksinger, the Demonknight is a very tough opponent but if you search back on this forum you will find various ways to beat him (including my own). I would suggest that an experianced party of six would want to go head to head with him, with the emphasis on hasted archers, while with a small party (solo) it would be better to break the mirror and take on the (weaker) fiends, because there would be less of them. Also because his magic resistance and saving throws are good, you might try to reduce them with spells such as Greater Malaise. Since this is one of the best fights in the game I'm sure others will have lots of good advice for you.

Since the Demonknight can see right through Stealth, Speed is probably your biggest asset. The Dk is nasty at melee combat, yes, but only after he's weakened you with his spells. If you can keep him from casting, or somehow cause those spells to go to waste, you own him.

IIRC you can get a dialouge option in which the DK tells that the mirror is broken - so you don't have to fight duplicates of yourself - 'just' the DK.

When i fought him , i had one character with boots of speed , and a potion of magic resistance( or something similar) go down the steps ( the rest of my party stayed at the top near the door) and smashed the mirror - then everyone ran back out the door . Waited a few seconds and went back in .
The mirror demons had killed the demon knight , and we just picked them off one by one .

i found the demonknight to be very easy, esp in comparison with pride/love or the dwarf guardians of the mace just above, or aec'letec, in comparison the demonknight is a wuss. I just sent both my tanks down to toe to toe him and he didnt get a spell off whilst i sent summoned creatures down to annoy him too, first time i tried him i was about level 5 i think or level 6 across my party.

my 2nd attempt i had a party of lvl7 - 9 so i just went down stood in front of the dk smashed the mirror and proceeded to kill all of em with ease

If this is still a tough fight for you then try the tactics below.....

just do what you normally do for a tougher fight, buff everyone up with spells, then send 2 people to one corridor down, 2 to the other DONT initiate dialogue before your ready, once in position make sure you got plenty of animal summoning and send them in BEFORE you start dialogue, then talk to him by which time all your animals etc are on their way to attack, plus once dialogue is over he has no time to cast and is under attack then send in your lads and take him out with old fashioned hitting, even a lvl 4 party should take him that way.

Use Potions of Heroism, Invulnerability, and Giant Strength for your tanks! Make sure your entire party is hasted! If you have a Cleric or Druid with 4th level spells, use Defensive Harmony!

dont waste potions on this guy, hes a wuss tactics win over potions, i save potions for aec'letec and for sarevok, well actually to tell the truth i always save potions for a tough fight, then complete the game and realise i got about 100 potions kicking about that i been saving up every single RPG i play i do that, hehe doh
