I've forgotten how I use the bookis I find

I've identified them but can't read them etc (except for journals etc)

Couldn't spot it in the manual

what do I do with them

"Use" them the same way as you are using potions or scrolls. Note that not everyone can use the magic books. Only a character, which would be able to learn the spell when he would level up to its current level just now, can use the book.

The character will learn the spell and the book will vanish.

Note that you get more mana when you learn a spell naturally instead of learning it via book. Still, if it's that all-important spell, it may be worth doing some book-learning. Personally, I sell 'em all [img]smile.gif[/img]
