Tell me people why is it that the makers of this game didn't give enough thought in creating better evil aligned NPCs. Everyone goes around with a good aligned party because of its obvious benefits; better NPC's cheaper stuff etc.
Everyone tells me how mad their party is...and all i can say is "well Edwin as i was saying before you so rudely interrupted...? Edwin, Kagain and Viconia are the only worth while evil NPC's.
There is just no benefits for being evil. Black Isle and bioware needed to even this good vs evil business, but they failed again in BG2...

It just doesnt pay to be evil! but its still heaps of fun... Thats only when your so powerful it doesnt matter if every one attacks you MUHAHAHAHA cough yeah.

I thought BGI was quite quite well balanced for good/evil NPCs. BGII is hopeless, although TOB does make amends.

Well In BG2 the only multi classed mage and Cleric were Evil
But it's true it doesn't benefit to be evil
but maybe that's also to send out a message (it's the US afterall)

They took what the majority of the people wanted.
They could have made more evil chars, but that would have costed more time in development and more money. They had a certain limit to things they could do set by I don't know who, like in ToB, they had only a certiain amount of words that could take up disc space, to keep the cost down. etc.
Now when the developers saw alot more people whining than they anticipated, they fixed things as much as possible in the next sequence of games.

It really DOESNT pay to be evil if that means letting your rep slide to below 10. I also think that there is sometimes a shortage of good characters of a certain type, like mages (Dynaheir cant ID which I consider a must, and Xan is absolutely USELESS when it comes to attack spells). You find a number of evil characters in the game, but as my group was good I never bothered to check them out.

The only thing i can say is try taking on 2 mages
They are weak in the beginning but get better once your get the better spells like fireball
Also if you want to continue to bg2 a mage pc will be a must as there are no full-class good mages in BG2

I used to consider IDing a must, but there's so much cash around . . .

Also, I found in BGI that I tended to use wands for attack and summoning spells (that money thing again). Which means you can use anybody, even Xan (who has got a cool sword).

I haven't ever used him myself, but I've heard that evil little Montaron actually becomes a very formidable character at higher levels. You can have him backstab Xzar if you want to split up the pair (Monty will happily do it, lol).

Wouldn't put it past him...
My friend had a bad experience with those two once, you'll find it under the "A scary story - can it be true?" thread somewhere in this section.
