It is "del filename.ext". No question about it. If you're trying to delete a directory, use "rmdir". Maybe you missed the file's extension? You can also try deltree though this is for deleting whole directory trees as the name suggests.

Damn - a DOS question - but I was too slow to get the answer in first. Those were the days when I had different autoexec.bat's and config.sys's for each new game, and wrote batch files and menu's that would automatically copy across the different files and reboot the computer just to play different games.

Oh how I miss all that .........NOT

Oooh - a challenge has been thrown down - but on what basis. In those days we had to load sound card drivers. I remember being ecstatic at one stage on my old 286 getting to 596 available, but then when I upgraded computers 386/500 and DOS's (about 6.2 I think) and could load more things "high" I seem to reacll getting to either 626 or 632. OMG - I sound just like one of Donut's geeky friends .

You could have just done the easy thing and used the multiple boot configuation options avaible with the later versions of DOS instead of messing around with all sorts of crazy batch files.

You can also trie "deltree" that will remove an whole directory!
Exp: "deltree c:\windows" without the qoutes and so on
Like Vaskez say it is the best way to kill any files in that directory!

LOL that's a bit too much. I changed an extension to .exe and as always it resulted in a file I can't delete.
I like dos for those situations, it doesn't nag that the program is in use and just deletes it. Windows complains it's running, which I'm sure it doesn't.

Also a python program I'm writing is running in dos (till I make a GUI) and it looks better than in windows IMO
