Edwin gets more spells thatn anyone, but he's evil...

Aerie is a cleric/mage, but limited by low int. a big variety of spells, but choose your mage spells wisely, since she is limited in how many she can learn.
And, she's good-aligned...

I use neither...

If you don't have a cleric in your party, I suggest you keep Aerie (multi-class cleric/mage), she can cast both cleric and mage spells but level slower and is limited without the exp cap removed. If you already have a cleric, then keep Edwin (he is more "interesting" ), he is a pure class mage and the best mage in the game (without the exp cap removed) but watch out for rep, he will leave your party if the rep is TOO high.

I would take Edwin, not only is he the finest mage in the game, but his dialog in fantastic, get him and Jan in the same group and the laughs will never stop !

You can use potions to influence a characters intelligence. Therefore they're not limited as to the spells they can learn/cast. Without removing the XP cap however, some spells will never be learnt, particularly true for multi-classed characters. (All mages can still cast from scrolls though.)

in the long run, youre telling me that aerie will beat edwin? hmm... here's the hitch... come to think of it, Aerie can save you a lotta space... how? here:

Edwin is in your party, you can get Viconia whos the best cleric in the game. now you have two right, on where aerie is both, but not as good as them. but hell, with another mage, let's say edwin, its a superpower firepower... anyway, you are sacrificing you cleric spells... but if the only disadvantage in cleric spells are slots, than get aerie.

The whole point is that with exp cap removed, it will benefit the NPCs who joins your party early in the game (and stay to the end), Aerie is probably the earliest accessible NPC outside the initial dungeon.
