was offered a training position at knox due to shortages of staffing. So for the next two years I was a trainer for the 45 range, hand to hand, and my favorite cold steele charlie.Unforunatly I suffered nerve damage to my neck and sholder in an excersize and moved into guard duty at the 1/210 armored in N.Y. Where I once again was back with my first love armor. And it worked for me for a while, but the low moral drinking on duty, smoking grass on duty, sleeping in thier cars, had pissed me off to no end,I was offered a med under honorable conditions and took it.I ran from an E1,to a Rocker in just under 4 years, and their are days I wish Had never said "Ok I'll go national guard from active duty".But all in all it made me grow up and be the man i am today so no regrets. ------------------ Trust is indeed a shiny jewel, set in the stone of friendship. And much like any other stone can be use to crush the skulls of those unsuspecting. To clear the path for me to claim my rightfull place as master of all I survey. Sageridder - I did basic in Fort Jackson S.C. and got E-2 there (98 out of 100 record fire with the M-16). I did my AITs at Dix and Knox and went to permanent party at Ft. Hood. I took part in Reforger in Germany, stationed there for 6 months then back to Hood and then back to Germany. I passed my E-5 boards but because I had less than 3 months I was told I would have to extend or re-up. I decided to do neither. My MOS was 63C20 (tracked vehicle mechanic).

Well for all you guys like me who got out but are still in the inactive reserve pool...guess what, you won't have to re-sign Uncle Sam might still need you. Not like they'd have to ask me twice. I'd go back in in a heartbeat if need be.

Well, if I were old enough, then my answer would be "yes." Today I almost regretted the fact that I couldn't join. All my life I've thought "no, the military's just not for me. I'll never join." But after seeing what happened today my thought's were more on the order of "Damn! I wish I were 18 so I could go get those bastards!" Sorry for my language. But I really wanted to. My reaction surprised even me. I feel strongly for my country. I don't take kindly to terrorists coming and attacking the center of my military and economy. This is my HOME and I will do what I can to defend it. I love the United States of American. I am an American citizen, this is my home, this is the place I grew up in, this is my land and NO ONE will take away my freedom. I would die first. Before today, I never really knew how much my country meant to me, and (even more so than I do about my country) how much I care about my countryman. My heart truly goes out to all who were affected by this and I pray for all that were harmed and those that must help these people and so that the leaders of this country and other governments are guided to the correct choices and decisions that must be made. I pray that those who perpetrated this act will turn from their evil ways and turn to the light of God or die for their terrible acts. I also pray for those who will have to fight in this impending war. I know that war is not official yet, but it's an almost certain result of this.
God bless America and God bless all of those outside of America who offer their support and condolences. Thank you so much. -Jafin ------------------ The Original Arch-Mage of the HADB Destroyer of the evil Bunnies Guardian of Boo |

Thanks for all the GREAT replies! Some grump told me there is no more patriotism. That it's a dead thing and everyone is for themselves now. I didn't believe him. Joining the military is a scary thing for most. Many countries make it a requirement to give two years once you're out of High School. It might not be a bad thing to implement here either. Many are quite blissfully ignorant of our position in the world and beleive they are too good to fight for the USA. I'm glad to see there are still those out there that havn't lost the American spirit! God bless the USA!

I've noticed nothing but guys in here (so far as I can tell) so I'll put in my 2c for women.
I was raised in a military family. My Mom's dad was Air Force and so was her twin brother. Her oldest brother was Navy. My Dad's family...I don't think there's a male in it that WASN'T in the military. My Dad was 3/5 Cav. - Black Knights and he raised me, IMO, right. That is - if I get a chance to, I'll kill whoever did this (if they ever have the balls to show their faces, that is)! I'll go whereever and do whatever is asked of me. My Dad fought my entering the Air Force when I was 18. He didn't want me getting killed in a foreign war. Well, looks like they might be bringing it here and, by God, my Dad's got an arsenal and I'm not afraid to use it! He taught me marksmanship when I was 12 and I can strip and re-build an M-16 to this very day! Hooowah! ------------------ "Allright! We'll call it a draw." "I'm INVINCIBLE! ... You're a LOONEY!" Dare to dream. Be bold enough to try. The day we stop learning is the day we start dying!(c) [This message has been edited by DragonMage (edited 09-12-2001).] |
