It is out national day, like the US independance day. It is the celebration of Caption Cook's "discovery" of the "barren land".
Australia day occurs on the 26th every year, this year it was (and still is in some places) a saturday, so since a public holiday on a saturday isnt too useful, we get one on Monday instead.

Just to clear something up because I was a bit ambiguos...

I meant the OOM vs. HADB thread over in the Roleplaying forum. I do ofcourse mean here at IW. Sorry if i confused you a bit... I tend to do that to people.
