I agree, Monks are one of the best classes around (If you don't look at their clothes. Platemail would be useful to hide them ). The only thing I'm having trouble with is their faster movement. They simply rush ahead of my party (and into trouble) while I want to keep everyone together. (If I want to be quick, I'll just put on some boots of speed) How do other monk players cope with this?

Yes Monks are very good, at lower levels they tend to use weapons a bit better than their unarmed attacks, but Once you reach the Underdark, your monk should be a Melee machine.

My monk character has -9 AC, about 75% MR

Gauntlets of Crushing
Cloak of the Sewers (+1 ac bonus)
Ring + 2 (+2 ac bonus)
Ring of earth control (+1 ac bonus)
Ion stone (as helm) (+1 ac bonus)
Amulet of 10%MR
Boots of Avoidence
Girdle of Bluntness

A monk is great. I believe they can detect traps real well. If you are making up a party of your own 6 people, I would make sure your thief puts his skills into everything except detect traps, that way you can make the most out of your monk/thief combo.
Like I said, at lower levels before a monk starts to get real strong, I used weapons more than fist attacks, then after my attacks got stronger, I switched over. I also had my monk carrying and using all the summoning figurines in the game, his own little conjuring zoo.

I love my monk and do not want to play anything else. I can handle almost anything on my own. Yes, they are a pain in the ass in the lower levels but once you get up there, I don't think there is anything like them.

Well, Willard in the lower levels you almost have to play them like a mage. My monk didn't do shit until she was maybe a 12 or 13 at least. Treat him like a mage and keep him out of trouble. It will be worth it in the long run.

At high levels the game is boring because the monk just shreds everyone and they may as well be going solo.
