I found this on the MSN homepage this morning, and thought it was very interesting.

Quote:
Okay, so Hurricane Isabel knocked out your electricity and flooded your basement and ripped off your roof and hurled an ancient oak tree into your living room and now rabid raccoons have wandered into your house and they’ve devoured the cat food and now they’re eyeing the cat and licking their lips — hey, don’t dwell on the negative. It’s time to look at the bright side of hurricanes.
“YOU HAVE TO look at the silver lining,” says Frank Marks, a research meteorologist for the hurricane research division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. “They’re good for the ecosystem, even if they’re bad for us.”
Not only are hurricanes good for the ecosystem, they’re also good for the aquifer. And for Lake Okeechobee. And for coral reefs. And for barrier islands. And for the piping plover. In fact, if it wasn’t for hurricanes, the poor piping plover would have no place to mate.
Check out the rest of the article, it's pretty informative.

Too true. In fact, it's a good thing we can't stop them.

Fires are very good for the environment, too, but we control those, so now all the forests are cramed with underbrush. This means you can't walk through them easily, and that when a fire does happen, it's worse. Yes, the forest service does controlled burns out west, which is good, but when one gets loose suddenly nobody wants them to do the controlled burns anymore.

I see this like colds. The common cold is good for us IMO -- I wouldn't want a cure. Every now and then your body needs to get the gunk out. Same with Mother Nature. Occassional stress builds strength in about any natural system you look at.

everything in this world has bright sides, even the worst thing.the bright side/s are equivalent to its dark side.so, if people begin to search and learn, evrythings that bad, doesn't mean that its totally bad.i heard from my geology teacher past in the years, that there is a probability that beneath the very hot and dry desert (dark side), lies a big source of water (bright side).anyway, thx for the news.

The whole of nature/ecosystem/life is in complete balance if it weren't for humans. We are the ones that de-stabilize everything and do unnatural things. We shift all balances of power towards one side. In a couple of decades, we might even be able to control nature for 99%, controlled disasters ....

True, I guess you could say that areas environment did need a little clensing Perhaps humans inadvertanly make hurricains and thats why we dont actually have any recorded before mass-communication and so on...
