Yeah, the lower the better.
But I didn't know you could get around 0!!!! Outrageous, haha
Anyways, if a weapon says +5, it should be deducted from your current THACO when you equip it, right? Somebody correct me if I am wrong

THAC0, means "To Hit Armor Class 0"

When you try to hit a person, a to-hit-dice with twenty sides will be "thrown" by the computer. After that, you're THACO determines if you hit or not.
example:
You try to hit a fighter with AC=0
You're THACO is 15 .. you'd then have to "throw" fifteen or higher in order to hit him

That's why the lower the THACO, the better, because if you have a THACO of 5, you'll hit your enemy if you throw 5-20, which is a better chance then 15-20.

P.s> If your THACO is below zero, you'll get bonusses, say you try to hit someone with AC=-10 and your THACO is -5 you'll have to throw 5-20 to hit him (to hit AC=0 -5 ... but +10 because of the enemy's AC
-5+10=5

P.s. a NATURAL -1- is allways a critical miss
a NATURAL -20- is allways a critical hit
"natural" means without any bonusses yet added
