Do you think The Lord of the Rings would work as an opera?
Luciano Pavarotti as Gandalf -- hmmmm...

ARE YOU KIDDING?????
LOTR has heavy drama interspersed with subtle comedy relief, powerful heroes, frightening villains, intrigue, deception, friendship, loyalty, trust, and an epic quest. WHAT ELSE DOES A GOOD OPERA NEED???? (Besides the obligatory "fat lady"). LOTR would make an absolutely GRAND OPERA! (and I'm not a "big fan" of opera myself). Great suggestion, K.T. Too bad Verdi and Puccini and Wagner are no longer around to do the work.
Yes, and I'd like to see Galadriel played by a fat lady.
