Just thought you folks might be interested. This coming Monday, Hindus all over the world celebrate Deepavali, the Festival of Lights, here in Singapore as well as in India. Deepavali celebrates the triumph of the gods over the forces of evil in Hindu mythology. On Deepavali, oil lamps are lit in the evenings and children are given sweets and candy. You folks might like to read more about it here.

A fitting follow-up on Halloween if you ask me. Wonder if any IronWorks members are Hindu, BTW?

Thanks for sharing this with us. I really enjoy learing about the customs and traditions in other countries and other religions. I think this type of sharing is one of the greatest things that the internet offers us. I hope other IW members will check this out.

To antryg: You're welcome. Glad you take an interest in the world's different traditions. We really can do with a little more mutual understanding and appreciation.

To Azrael: Care to tell me more about 'hannakah' -- or whatever you spell it?

I'm not Hindu, but the archtypes and artwork have always struck an inner-chord with me.
Thanks for sharing this.

Same here. Guess I might have been a Hindu in a previous life.

I'm particularly fascinated by Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction. He's one of the mightiest gods in the entire Hindu pantheon, and also philosophically the hardest to understand. He can fire a death ray from his third eye anytime he wishes, mind you.
