j/k, to each his own, but I don't have anything special with that song. As for songs stuck in my mind, normally it's the last song I hear before I turn off my stereo.

A friend of mine and I pulled a joke on the campus radio station in college. We were sitting in the dorm, very bored, and Stairway To Heaven came on.
Naturally, it is a "staple" of college radio. You can't go more than a few days without hearing it, or so it seems. Anyway, about halfway through the song, I get my buddy to call the DJ and say "Hey, what's the name of this song you're playing; It's GREAT! I love it. Who sings it anyway?" He said he thought the DJ would have a stroke! He said "YOU'RE KIDDING!!! YOU'VE NEVER HEARD THIS SONG BEFORE?!?!" My buddy finally admitted we were pulling his leg, but his reaction was great. Heirophant, I agree that the you don't see bands or singers singing songs with those types of lyrics anymore - at least I haven't seen or heard any. In answer to your original question, YES, I have often had a song "stuck in my head" all day long. Like you, I'm also thankful that it wasn't some Pop Boy Band song.

I orginally liked Stairway to Heaven when it first hit the airways, but the 7,563,422 times that I have heard it since, have somewhat "soured" my opinion of the song. Classic Rock stations, where you can hear the Top 40 from the '70s over and over and over and over again.

Who mentioned Pink Floyd? I FECKING HATE PINK FLOYD!!!!! Aaaargh!
Hunter - I don't know what you would think of me, most of the music I like was made before I was born! (Soul, Motown, Ska). Hey, you must be younger than I thought anyway. Songs stuck in my head? Yep, 'Waterloo Sunset' by The Kinks. Often plays on a loop in my brain, great song. Usually if I am getting the bus to Waterloo station it makes me think of it. And if I am getting the bus to Victoria station, I get 'Victoria' by The Kinks running through my head! Oooh, another one - if I see a bloke I used to work with called Dave Watts, I get... wait for it.... 'David Watts' by The Kinks (and admirably covered by The Jam) playing on my internal juke box. Mmmm, I do like bands other than The Kinks. Yesterday it was 'You Can't Hurry Love' by The Supremes (NOT fecking Phil Collins who deserves to die painfully for his crap version).

I've had Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U" stuck in my head for 2 days now, and it's driving me insane. The scary part is that I realised I know the words!
Now for those of u who think u know me, does it really seem like the kind of thing I'd listen to? lol

I'm stuck with 'Now' by Def Leppard ringing in my heard after giving their new album X a listen-to yesterday. Average track (although the whole album is rather sellout), its just nice to hear something by the Leps after such a long time.

Firstly I am baffled to hear that anyone hates Pink Floyd. Maybe you just haven't heard enough of it. From the poppy sounds of Syd Barrett to the dark melodies of Rodger Waters to the ridiculously amazing guitar of David Gilmore, Floyd has had some of the best musical talent of all time in it. Not to take away from other bands like Zepplin, even thought they let Peter Grant ruin the music industry, or the amazing combination of talent that was the Beatles, but as far as music goes Floyd eclipses them all. With thought inspiring lyrics and incredible guitar Pink Floyd made a name for themselves that will be hard to beat.
Secondly as far as music that is coming out today, most of it isn't worth the cost of the CD it was produced on. Poor lyrics that you can't understand because they scream them, and bad guitar played really loud, should't even be considered music IMHO. Obviously like with most stereotypes there are exceptions, but the number of exceptions I could count with the toes of one foot. Thirdly for those of you that said you couldn't get into to music before your generation, 90% of the music I listen to was made before I was born. Think about it this way, let's for the sake of argument say that the Mona Lisa is the best painting ever. Now that was painted hundered of years before any of us were born, but does that make the painting any less good? Obviously not. This same idea applies to music. Because amazing music was recorded before we were born doesn't make that music any less good. I would hope people would be able to look beyond the years and see older music for how good it truly is. Finally, Yes i get songs stuck in my head all the time. EDIT: Nothing against the kinks either they can rock or a lot of other classic rock bands (HENDRIX) i just wanted to save space and not list all of them.
