You need 21 DEX to have -5 AC. Unless you used BG1 Tomes, you cannot get it legimately as a Kensai. Other Fighter kits can though, because they can wear the armour that grants +1 to DEX.
You get the Ring of Protection +3 from the Deck of Many Things. If you are evil, you can get -2 AC from a Tear of Bhaal in SoA. Edited my first post on this thread. Thanks for reminding me of the RoP +3. |

The item description of RoP+3 I read in uhhh Shadowkeeper (I didn't use it though...just curious) said it was made better with investment. Or am I confusing myself again? Blergh...ignore me..... |

A Kensai can unleash some serious damage with Throwing Axes, but they have a slower Rate of Fire than, say, a Bow. Who does more damage per round, a Kensai with Axe+++++ or an equivalent Fighter with Bow+++++?

Kensai's cannot wear helmets, only loun stones, but since the dusty rose/lavender loun stone/wong fei's loun stone all grant +1AC anyway, I'll let you off
Kensai's cannot use shields too IIRC. Lowest AC I calculate is base AC 8 + DEX bonus (+4) = AC4 loun stone of somesort (+1) = AC3 Ring of Gaxx (+2) = AC1 Ring of protection +3 = AC-2 Cloak of the sewers = AC-3 Axe of Unyielding (or Dak'kon's Zerth Blade) = AC-4 2 prof points in single weapon style = AC-6 Shield Amulet (AC4) = AC-12 Spirit Armour (AC1) = AC-15 The above 2 are only temporary however. |

quote: Urm, Jim. Are you thinking of a Kensai->Mage? Coz I don't see how can a pure Kensai cast Spirit Armour. Oh, and IIRC, Kensais are only restricted from wearing armour, bracers, and gauntlets. I got my information from GameBanshee. |

Well, I'll be damned. They can't use Helmets and Shields after all. I just created a new Kensai to test it out.
Crikey, the least that they could do was to put it in the kit description. Edited my post again to reflect the change. |

I was assuming that the kensai was in a party with a mage in order to get the spirit armour, since no one mentioned a solo kensai
Looks like we agree with AC-6 then The shield amulet is pretty damn useful for a kensai. Fully charged it gives around 40 - 10 turn charges of AC4 (+6 AC bonus to our AC-6 = -12) Also, I reckon you could get a bonus +1AC using an elf with 19 DEX, using the machine of lum the mad to get 20 DEX, then using the soul stone from Amkethran. no wait, that would remove the AC loun bonus. Oh well...... |
