This very issue is why many women are against a Womens Rights Amendment. I believe that most women would rather stay home and nurture than be "cannon fodder". I personlly wouldnt want a female in a foxhole with me. To scared to fight, to scared to move. To scared to hand me another clip of ammo, in other words not much good to me. The large majority of women arent as strong as a man and arent as capable of doing things that require muscle power. This is why women have lower standards when it comes to physical fitness in the military. When I served in the Army men had to do 40 pushups to graduate basic, women only had to do 20. I rest my case.

Oh I agree most women would not want to be drafted but TO BAD! you wanted equal rights you got em baby. There are plenty of positions in the military that dont require you to be in direct combat.

Excuse Me! Your points about physical strength are one thing and quite correct, but where the *hell* do you get off labelling women as scared little girls, too afraid to act when necessary? Women are just as capable of being courageous, and men are just as capable of panicking at the wrong moment. You think Louise Michel was standing blubbing like a baby in front of the firing squad in 1871? Wrong.
Grow Up.

We have conscription - and I have done my time

And I say: "Lets get a proffessional army"

in DK women can volunteer to do national service - but if they don't like it, they can quit at ANY time.
Yow! Are there still people out there that believe this about women? With that kinda attitude, Earthdog, you might have to worry more about getting yourself shot by the woman, sharing your foxhole.

Coming from a country where the population is only 4 million plus, I understand the rationale behind the necessity of National Service( NS). A few years back, I argued in an English class that women should serve NS as well. They need not be assigned in the same divisions as men though, they can be trained to be Field Medics, Surveillance, Vehicle Drivers( tank gals for example ), etc... ...

Yes, on average, women tend to be physically weaker than men, but not to the point where they cannot even lift at least 10 Kg.

I mean hey, if they can carry all those shopping bags, a rifle is nothing to them.

So I say stop the discrimination! Women are not hyper-weak! Get them to sweat and bleed along with us in National Service!

Where I get off is the fact that Ive seen too many women have a car wreck and get out of the car shaking and crying and all that other stuff. Ive seen too many women freeze with panic. Ive seen women come close to having heart failure when they see a spider. Thats why I wouldnt want women in combat with me: because they panic under pressure.

As for the inability to handle the physical demands of combat, well, you agreed. If they cant handle the physical part of combat how would they cope with the emotional part of it?

Am I supposed to carry their rucksack for them because they are to weak or frail to do it themselves?? How many women can handle their own rucksack AND humpin an M-60 machine gun on a 20 mile road march in hostile territory? Throw in 3 boxes of ammo and 5 grenades. Most women couldnt handle it.

Despite how sexist my attitude sounds I have reason for it. I dont want to be in combat with women because in my opinion they cant handle any part of it. Stay at the motor pool or do paperwork. I dont care. But dont expect me to carry your load when your hands get too tired. Its not an adventure- its a job (dont believe the commercials).

No one has to agree with my views. Im not asking anyone too. You talk to any member of the 82nd Airborne or Special Forces or Rangers and you'll hear the same thing. Very few women can handle combat. Maybe if they came from a society like Isreal where they live it every day they have a different mindset. In America or Australia and may other countries, females arent born with the threat of combat on a daily basis. Go to Isreal and any 4 year old will tell you if you see a bag unattended CALL THE BOMB SQUAD. Not the case in the US or Australia ect.

Its not sexist, its logic.

Boy, Earthdog, you are looking for a fight! Aren't cha?

A few questions:

Are you married?

Have you made these statements to women you know?

What happened after you did (if you did)?

Yes as a matter of fact I have. Most women agree with me. They dont want anything to do with the military much less combat.

Yes Im married. And theres no way in hell youd get a gun in my wifes hands.

I know a couple women that might be able to cope. But, they are women who would clear a bar if one guy pissed em off. Those are the exception, not the norm.
