I am going to replace some of the creatures in SOA, to make it a little more difficult. I am going to use already existing monsters.

So, my question is, which are the most difficult creatures in the game? Excluding unique creatures with dialog.

Beholders?
Mind Flayers?
Iron Golems?
Rune Assassins?
A mage with no Dialog?

What is the most difficult (re-appearing) monster, in the game?

I really can’t use big monsters, like giants, dragons, and ettins, because they would not fit in most places.

I’ve got about a dozen lesser monsters that I am going to replace. These monsters are things like Kobold #1 and #2, Vampire #3, Amnish Soldier, Shadow Thief #2, Helm Knight #1, Salamander, Pirate, Mushroom monster, ect... I did not choose these creatures because they are weakest or worse, but rather, because they are the ones that are used most, from a single file (that I could find). For example, there are 20 different kobolds creature files, in the game. I tried to find the one or two that were used most often. Not all Clay Golems come from a single creature file. This list includes humans, monsters, enemy and neutrals (no friends).

And secondly, which Boss needs to be more difficult? Besides Jon and Bodhi.

If you don’t know the name of the creature or its file, I will need some description of the monster and its location, to locate the exact creature file you are referring to.

Greater Wolfwere is the scarriest! They move with haste and regenerate like heck!

If you have the shield of Balduran beholder might as well not exist.
Mind Flayers especially Ultrithids are deadly.

Elder Orbs. They can cast imprisonment, which is a real pain without a Berserker...

Mind Flayers are definitely the worst. They can use their psionic abilities as often as they wish, drain IQ with each hit, and have reasonably good MR. I beat both the red and black dragons in about 7 rounds each and suffered no losses, but that seems easy to facing 3 illithids.

I suppose I'll just have to create an anti-illithid weapon, yes?

An intelligent mind is the key to the universe.

The most distressing thing about practicing magic is the fact that even the most learned sorcerers cannot accurately describe what magic *is*....

How about an Ulitharid, souped up, that can spawn other Mind flayers? Say one per round as an innate ability?
