I have two questions about dwarves as thieves. First what is their max dexterity if u use no items? Second what weapons can you backstab with?

Dwarves can have 18 dex. You can backstab with a dagger or a short sword.

There is no tome of dexterity in BG2. I think you mean the gloves of dexterity.

You can backstab with longswords, Katanas and some others too. Personally I'd rather you could only B/S with daggers or at the outside a short sword. I think the game lets itself down in this department, particularly as Katanas are in reality two handed swords. Imagine a Halfling Backstabbing with a weapon that's nearly as tall as he/she is, it's ridiculous.........still, there ya go.

Why would you want a dwarf thief? I think Halfling thieves are much better.
