This is the cornerstone around which the concept of freedom of speech is built, as long as it is done with respect for others.

I look forward to seeing whether your definition of respect includes referring to any given cultural group (blacks, Jews, Chicanos, whatevers) as "cheap, sneaky, dirty people."

Of course it doesn't. Why did you think my post was aimed at you, where was this said and who said it?

Memnoch, it was so non-directional--in an effort, I'm sure, to appear non-confrontational and even-handed--that I honestly wasn't certain where it was aimed. As I get to know you better, no doubt understanding will grow.

Do you mean, where was this posted? Durwyn wrote it, above, in referring to Russian Jews.

You dont know what those people are, they are not like the people that were ones shipped to Germany or other European countries for slavery. They are cheap, sneaky, dirty people. And I will hold my fact, for I know that every Russian Jew I'vet met in NY has just been that, and only that.

I just noticed this now (didn't read through the entire thread). Thanks for bringing it to my attention, fable - I missed it.

Durwyn, this statement was totally out of line, and racist. Now I understand why the other thread was deleted. This forum is NOT a place to post blatant racist opinions against a particular culture of people, whatever your personal experiences are.

Since this was your first offence, consider this as a stern warning. Don't do it again, ok? Racism ranks up with pornography, piracy, pedophilia and disrespect of authority as big no-nos in this forum.

I'll lock this thread now, to prevent further flaming.

That's exactly right. It was intended as a reminder for everyone to keep their cool. I'd rather give people the opportunity to resolve things on their own before engaging in locking threads and all that jazz. But that was before I read what Durwyn wrote, so I'm locking this thread now before it gets more out of hand.
