Of course, I'm trying to be good and not do it the "easy" way...rather actually pay for the downloads I want. The cheapest I have found is .88˘ per song with no subscription fees or anything like that. I have not found a better deal than that yet. However, the songs that were bought would only play on WMP. I tried playing them with my Creative Audigy II media center which has much better sound output but it would not do so.

I ended up scrapping the program that Wal-mart put on my PC that recognizes me as a user of their shop, and that also got rid of the licenses that I had for the three songs that I had managed to download by then.

Question is, what do you use these days?
Thanks in advance.

Magnatune is something of a breath of fresh air.

Key things to look out for are who actually owns the files you pay for (ie. don't use kazaa's service), whether they try and lock you in to a particular format and whether they try and restrict the way in which you use the music you buy.

If they do, then vote with your feet and keep looking.

well anyfile that can be played in WMP can be played in other programs. you just need a program to convert it into another sound format.

I used to have a nice opensource program that did it for me. Now i'm using itunes for almost everything (it spoils me)

And then again if you just want to listen to music there's alwas pandora

http://www.pandora.com/

I'll try looking fo the program. I'll Pm you the link once i find it.

Yeah, but Soulseek is free.

Can't really say I could recommend you one either Larry, since I've never used a paying one before, but isn't there some where you pay a fee per month and you get unlimited downloads? Or is that just wishful thinking?

Actually, I've been getting my music from, dread dread, MSN...ok, so shoot me, but it's legal, and I can burn the tracks I buy to cd. Helps that I have a program that can convert it to any format I choose, but that was 300.00 worth of software, and is what I use to make my cd's, the one's I record myself.

I actually looked into MSN's collection, but Walmart is still cheaper. However, does MSN have a less-restrictive policy?
