Terror in Oklahoma tonight

Truly sad. I was hoping that no copycats would happen as a result of the Shooter (I refuse to refer to the Washington Area suspect as a sniper)....

I wonder what the difference is between murder and terror? Is there any difference?

Not to "make light" of this tragedy in any way, but you certainly hit the proverbial "nail on the head", Cloudy....we seem to hear about incidents like this more and more.

I won't detract from the focus of this thread by going off-topic (not far, anyway). Suffice to say that the media sometimes "chooses" what type of stories they give more coverage too...and that depends on whatever topic is "HOT" at any given moment. I dare say we will hear of even more incidents like this in the next few weeks....not because the actual number of incidents has gone up, but because the media is putting more focus on this type of story right now. Still, that's a topic for another thread.

Sephorith - I'm very glad to hear you're OK. I sincerely hope it wasn't you "newfound friend", but it sounds like it is a terrible tragedy for everyone involved.

I hate to admit it, but it is incidents like this that certainly lend credibility to the "gun control" arguments. This boy wouldn't have been able to cause nearly as much grief if he hadn't had a gun. Very, very sad. [img]graemlins/verysad.gif[/img]

Anyone know why this unstable persons parents were not involved? What do they have to say about this?

Perhaps we should consider licensing people before they bocome parents. of course, we would have to enforce some sterilization rules as well Is there no way to stop mentally deficient people before they become a danger?

I hear you Cerek. I've definitely noticed that I haven't been seeing much *good* news on the news anymore. SSJ4 I really hope this wasn't your new friend. It's a shame stuff like this has to happen at all.

Magik, I hardly doubt if it were your kid you'd appreciate the media coming to you asking for statements about your kid and why you weren't involved. I'm sure there as horrified as we all are about it.

The kid took heavy amounts of medication. Overdoses, so my brother says, and did narcotics from time to time, and apparently he also dropped acid at least once. I hardly think his parents could be held responsible for that, since after all they were his actions, not his parents'.

How old was the kid? 1st off, My son doesn't and will not have the freedom to come and go as he wills. As a parent it is my responsibility to know where he is at all times, and with whom. This wasn't just a freak thing, it sounds like this kid was a regular problem, and so the parents should have been on top of it. Making sure he did not have access to guns, medications, a car or any other method of getting into these kinds of situations. I realize it is popular today to treat children like adults but they are not. I know the younger set on here may not like the thought of strict parents, but here we have a classic case of what happens when you have a lack of parenting. (it is possible to be a strict parent and still have your kids love you)
