Although I’ve hit rock bottom at the Luremaster’s place, I’m setting my sights on the next adventure. Because my current DC Fighter/Mage is by far my best character, I’m thinking of the following party:

Fighter-mage, proficient in Great Swords and Bows, DC-ing at lvl 9, specializing in close combat spells and ranged spells.

Fighter-mage, proficient in Axes and Bows, DC-ing at lvl 9, specializing in close combat spells and summons.

Fighter-mage, proficient in Long Swords (or Flails- I can’t decide) and crossbow, DC-ing at lvl 9, specializing in area spells and ranged spells.

Ranger-Cleric, natural enemy skeletal undead, proficient in the mace and slings, DC-ing at lvl 6

Fighter-thief, proficient in dagger or short sword (can’t decide) and the bow and DC-ing at lvl 6. Is it better to start as the thief or the fighter?

Bard (of course, given the above), proficient in the staff and crossbow.

So that’s it. Any thoughts? Am I missing something that I’ll need strategically later on? Suggestions on how to divide the schools of magic? Should I eliminate someone? Would this work for playing HOF?

Let me know what you think.

Hee, hee, hee, hee, HAW!! Another convert to the dark side of Battle Mages!! And I see you're doing it right: DCing over at Fighter 9.

Wow! You have some awesome firepower here!!! Oh man, five (5!!) "fighters" and a Bard! I am salivating like an egg-sucking dog in the hen house!! These guys ought to kick some serious TotLM tush! Heh, heh, heh: Using the DC build this way should be illegal....

I am very happy with my Fighter-->Thief (DCed over at Fighter 9, or maybe 10); because she racked up all the Fighter HP bonuses that you get at those low levels. I think it is just a riot that my axe-wielding "Thief" is the most viscious and hard-hitting hand-to-hand combatant on the team!

You have a small problem, DCing all your Fighters at clvl 9. You might have to either 1.) start your F/T as a Thief in order to have a Fighter when all your others DC [and temporarily lose Fighter skills], or 2.) DC some of your PCs over at Fighter 10. IF you are going for the "dream team" to power through HoW/TotLM, I would go with Option 2.

With 3 Mages AND a Bard (Ya-a-A-A HOOO!! 4 "mages" in a party!!! I like it!) you might have overwaxed magic at the expense of clerical power. I would go for 3 "mages" and 2 "clerics" instead of a 4-1 split. I did a Ranger-->Cleric (like one of your PCs) and a Cleric-->Fighter. The characters came out great --and I was so-o-o EXTREMELY glad that I brought two Clerics into HoW and TotLM-- but I was not totally satisfied with the order of my DC. I wished I had done it the other way: Fighter-->Cleric (like another of your PCs) and Cleric-->Ranger (make sure Cleric has AT LEAST two "raise dead" slots before DCing). That way the party always has a Cleric; and the PC that has the Fighter skills ALSO has the Fighter HPs.

I presume with all those mages, you will specialize in various schools in order to get the extra spell per level.

With all other characters = Human, your Bard needs to be a race with infravision.

(BTW, Matey, I've been stuck studying for my microwaves class for 2 weeks, now. Har, Har, Har! It warms my heart to see that you, also, are not yet through TotLM!)

What's a party,
without a song?
Bards ROCK!
Party On!!

Hmm hard to say.
Unless you have Project Auril mod you will equip/unequip armor a lot, or suffer a lot of damage.
I would drop one F/M and take F/C instead (especially if you are going on HoF mode- you'll need A LOT of healing)
Next, if you aren't die hard R/C fan (don't get me wrong,I know that R/C are gooood) drop a R/C and try fighter/druid instead.
As for the mage specialisation, I can't help you on that, I haven't dualclassed a fighter/specialist mage since I got HoW, and I know that opposition schools are now two instead of one, as it was in original IWD.
F/T dualclass, well if you are going to roleplay, both options (F->T or T->F) are open, but if you will powergame (believe me HoF mode is rarely roleplayed ) then F->T is the only way to go,
