(This is a trivial question, but I'm just curious)

I used a Skull Trap with some werewolves and I just finally noticed that I get numbers like these:

39 damage to Werewolf
34 damage to Werewolf
Werewolf: death

Werewolf: save vs spell
17 damage to Werewolf

Why are there TWO damage numbers, why not just one? (I see two numbers with ADHW and Fireball as well, among others.)

FYI - obviously I have not played PnP AD&D (well not yet, anyway)

There was a threat about this not so long time ago. IIRC, it had something to do with calcutations. It is easier (or should I say faster) for computer to calculate them in two parts. Or at least that's what I remember about it. [img]smile.gif[/img]

It's just the game engine way of dealing the damage for spells who allow a save for half.

For a spell that deals XdY damage and allows a save vs. spells for half (spells like the ones you mentioned), it goes like this:
(1) Roll the save dice. If the victim fails deal (X/2)dY damage.
(2) Deal (X/2)dY damage.

Sometimes there are other parameters, but this is the basic formula. [img]smile.gif[/img]
