LOL you've hit on the big problem with most language research - multisyllable words aren't neat and tidy and involve a lot more complexity so they're usually put in the too hard basket and research is done on monosyllable words. Resulting in most models and findings being extremely hard to generalise. Although I didn't have too much trouble interpreting these sentences, maybe it does apply to longer words

It's certainly a true finding - we don't tend to parse words letter by letter but by bigger units. Some researchers have also found that we don't parse by syllables, which is an interesting finding. However most of us don't just store the beginnings and ends and a jumble in the middle, because then we couldn't spell properly. Some researchers think that we learn to read using partial cues like that, but as we get more sophisticated and have more exposures to words the middles which aren't as salient are learned properly as well.

I received this Danish version last week:

The only difference is that when you may scramble all the letters except the first and the last one in the English version, you must leave the first and last two letters in the Danish version.

I prefer to believe that the reason for this, is that the Danish language is more complicated (higher LIX) than the English language.
