Same way I just got through. My level fifteen fighter cleared the whole place out by himself with just one casting of chaotic commands on him. Everytime you start to have intelligence drained you just run and close a door behind you. Mindflayers also can't do very much when you've stunned them all with celestial fury heh heh heh.

Yeah, I used to have trouble with mind flayers until someoen told me about Chaotic commands, I'd jsut cast that on 2 of my fighter/mages (who have 18 Int and 18/?? str) and they just cleared the flayers out for a joke, and yeah that wand of cloudkill rocks too. In that room in the sewers where there's a few flayers, illithids and umberhulks, i jsut used the wand in there and they started to drop.

I love the thought of a huge group of illithid standing around a closed door, scratching their heads (brains). But it's pretty stupid, yes.

I don't really get this with the INT drain. Is that a separate attack from the brain eating thingy, or do your brain turn to goo and you die when INT is drained to 0, ie that is the brain devour attack?

I had a look at the attack type MINDFLAY in Infinity Explorer. It has a THACO of 0, it does 1d2 of damage, speed factor 0 and drops your Int by 5 each hit. When you go down to 0 Int, you're brain's been devoured.
