Can you guys think of one 5-letter word, whose letters can be arranged in any order, that would fit in this sentence:

In one famous fairy tale, the wicked stepmother [] her lovely stepdaughter and [] all plans to get rid of her. She behaves like a [].

And make sense? I was thinking beats, bates, beast, but that's a stretch.
