I think that ninjas and perhaps zenmasters can also acquire Tiger Strike.

According to Sazerac's traits table on page three of the best tips only samurais and zenmasters can acquire that trait. It is available at 5th level standing in the Bushi Dojo. But since you are running the unpatched version of the game you can exploit the multiple ascension bug.

Uh oh!
That means that I have to go Shurugeon castle, Boogre Prison, Stout Mine and
Dragon Spire before I get into Brimloch and be able to get level 5 in Bushi Dojo!

After that my 11 level Samurai would be at level 20 or more...
And he must train into ninja and assassin too!

Think I pass that Tiger Strike...
And in future I read 'best tips' more carefully when I plan
my men's ( womens ) training!

No, what I mean by the multiple ascension bug is the bug where you, after having completed just one dojo quest, click on your samurai, then another party member (if you have no others then just create one for this purpose), then on the samurai again and so forth until you have clicked on the samurai five times. You will then have level five standings (well six, actually [img]smile.gif[/img] ) after having completed just one quest.

Serpent Idol code

00 00 00 00 04 00 00 00 00 00 53 65 72 70 65 6E 74 20 49 64 6F 6C 00 00 ....

^ Serpent Idol ^

You'll need to search out the thread I posted ages ago on hacking.

53 65 72 70 65 6E 74 20 49 64 6F 6C = Serpent Idol

When hacking, I always find it easier to enter the item names in the "text" side of a hex edit screen than in the hex code.
The best way to hack this is it so have some single useless item that you can replace with this new code.

If you have difficulty understanding my hack thread, let me know. Or you can send me a saved file and I can hack it, test it on my old machine (now my son's game machine) and email it back to you. Has been quite a while since I've done this!

Huh! Wyvern, thanks!
I might try that, I've edited several games myself too, starting with nahlakh [img]smile.gif[/img]

And Think I try that multiple leveling in Dojo, it worked fine in Temple with Jathlin's scroll guest

My parents are traveling into Italy tomorrow and I have to wake up early to drive them into railwaystation and to look Formula 1 hoping Kimi will beat Shumi... So good night to all of you, see you after weekend ( if I don't have anything else to do [img]smile.gif[/img] )

Hi all,

Just to correct Wyvern's code which did not do it for me. [img]smile.gif[/img]

The above code is incomplete and doesn't yield the idol itself ( at least not for me ).

Here is the needed code and explanation of how to get it.

7100000004000000000053657270656E742049646F6C
^^

The above needs to be entered for the item icon to appear properly.
The first code ( wyvern's ) tried gave either nothing if trying to convert a potion to the idol or a sword with the name serpent idol if changing a sword etc...

If you look in the file D6ITEM.DAT with a hex editor and search for "monkey idol", you will find the following code.

48000000030000004D6F6E6B65792049646F6C
^^

Right below the monkey idol in the file is the serpent idol with the following code.

490000000000000053657270656E742049646F6C
^^

The first two digits represent a letter. 48 being H and 49 being I so you now know that the serpent idol first 2 digit code is 1 over the monkey one.

Now you most definately allready have at least one of the monkey idols before you get stuck not being able to reach the passage with the serpent one so here is how you come up with the "71" at beginning of my code.

Make sure you give one character only one of the monkey idols in case you have more of them, to make things easier and also give him one mana potion only which you are going to change to the serpent idol. Place them one next to the other in the character's inventory again for ease of editing. SAVE your game and quit.

Make a copy of your game save that you are going to hex edit. Name it gamexx.back or something ( xx being the number of the save you are needed to edit ).

The open up the original in the hex editor and do a search for "monkey idol".
You should see the ascii on the right spelling monkey idol and the coresponding code on the binary side should look like this:
code:
700000000400000000004D6F6E6B65792049646F6C
^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
start code M o n k e y I d o l
[/QUOTE]Now if you remember what i said about the D6ITEM.DAT, the serpent idol starting code is one more than the monkey one thus it is gonna be 71.

BEFORE you change anything, use "page up" to go up in the file until you see a character name and make sure you are at the character that you gave the lone idol to because if you have more than one of the monkey one's, you might not necessarily be at the correct character's inventory in the file.

Now you look for the mana potion which should be right below the monkey idol in the file and change the code from this: Only use the left part ( digits ), right is only there for reading purpose.
code:
From this:

000000000000010000004D616E6120506F74696F6E | !.........Mana Potion

To this:

7100000004000000000053657270656E742049646F6C | q.........Serpent Idol
^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
start code S e r p e n t I d o l
[/QUOTE]NOTE: the ending "l" in the serpent idol code will overwrite one of the 00 after the ending "n" in potion since it is longer but that is ok since thats how it works so make sure you dont insert one more byte in the file because the game won't load.

Do this again for the next place in the file where you will find the
same character's inventory and you are set.

You now have a Serpent Idol in place of the mana potion in your inventory with the correct icon & all.

NOTE: I am not 100% sure you need to do both places since i did not test but to be sure i did both and it worked for me.

If my explanation is too complicated, just use the code i supplied along with Wyvern's instructions.

cheers

-Ball
