whenever i try to start a multiplayer game, it starts the game but it doesn't open the multiplayer screen. i really want some help with this because multiplayer is so much fun!

I don't really understand your problem. What are you doing exactly?
You press Multiplayer, then nothing happen?

this is on mac so... i go to GameRanger. I go gather game. I go start game. It opens up Baldurs Gate 2. Nothing else happens.
