um i thought i would take my own topic off topic,if i say bought a new modem from say Wal-Mart and then it should have a cd for the drivers(like i got for my Voodoo 3 graphics card then i shouldn't have any problems should i,also i know this sounds bad but does the phone line have to be ran into the phone or can it be used in the phone-jack,does this sound stupid or what,IQ of 123 five years of technically background and don't know how to get my modem to work

hellfire: ck walmart or radioshack etc..they sell a little gizmo that clips into the telephone jack and leaves two connections. I run one to the computer and one to the phone (splits the connection for you) so you don't need to worry about which wire is in and out of the computer/phone. one to each as if you had two phone jacks (but only one thing works at time- phone OR computer...which is my problem these days!)

Do you get DSL service in your area (or cable for that matter)?? I know if you get DSL they give you a modem and come to your place to install/configure it.....this is something you could look into.
