Okay, heres the deal. I've never played NWN, and I will be able to tomorrow. My friend has played it for the last day and thinks hes the best player ever and I want to show him just how wrong he is. I play BG2 and I know that a lot has changed in NWN, so can you guys help me out? What is the strongest class over all and what are the top few things every NWN player must know. Spoil away, I don't really care.
Thanks a lot! Decurion |

I would like to be able to help, but I am not sure I can answer the questions that you have asked in a manner that is suitable to you. You say that you have played the BG series, so you know that any class can make it great, depending on who is at the controls. I personally love the moments when somebody says that their drow thief is the best pick-pocket in the history of the game, then I show them that the same can be done with a barbarian dwarf! Times like that shows who is a true gamer, in my opinion...doing something with all the odds against you. Third Edition rules helps you do things like that. In my opinion...the best gamer would be the one that could go through a game with the lightest and fewest armor and smallest weapons, yet pull off fantastic deeds. That is a true gamer.
As for the top things that every NWN gamer must know...it would most likely be knowing how to game online and what modules are the hottest for download. YOu can view this info on NWN homesite. Since the game was designed as #1 online multi gaming...this is what every NWN game owner should know. How to do it, where to do it, what clans are the best gamers to hang with, and so on. I am sure you want more info than this, and maybe somebody will disagree with me. Still, I hope you can find something useful in my post. You can always brag about being a member of the most prestigious website that devotes their resources to the game's promotion, etc.

If you truely want to show your friend he's wrong, you should not try to take the 'strongest' character around. Instead, pick the weakest and show he/she is more than capable of handling things. Ask your friend which class he thinks is worst.
If I had to guess, he'll be playing a fighter or monk and thinks the druid is one of the weaker classes. I may be completely off here as I have very little to go by, but like I said, that'd be my guess. Thinking you're great is easier when you can fight toe to toe with monsters from the start, rather than having to hang back and rest to regain spells very often in the beginning. If you are going to play the official campaign, start with the prelude. A lot of the gameplay is quite instinctive, but it helps to get a few pointers in the right direction first. One of the main things to realise, is that the monsters you'll encounter are tough, almost without exception. Leave your friend to fight a band on his own while you 'try to get the hang of the game' ( ) and he'll be badly injured or dead in no-time. But the same goes for you as well. Try reading the appropriate parts of the manual too, learn about your class' benefits. And at low level, always go for ranged attacks. There's much more advice to be given, but this should make for a good start. Anyway, it's better to just try out the game today, and show you're better tomorrow. You can't expect to just jump in and be the best, that's where your friend went wrong. But you'll pick things up soon enough |

In bg2 my favourite class was the monk, and though it was a little weak at the beginning of the game, it became really strong later on. I've heard that the monk has lost some of his (/her) power in NWN, can anyone tell me if this is true?
Thanks, Decurion P.S. Thanks for your input guys! |

You're not getting far against someone who's played a lot, especialy if you're dueling. Fighter is the easiest to play. Rack up STR and CON as high as you can, forget about dex, get some heavy armor and a big two handed sword. Feats to go for are cleave, power strike, things like that. Fave skill might be persuade and search to find traps (there are lots in NWN)
