Finger of death help

There's a mage in the temple district sewers who I can't beat.He's behind a secret door and is called Mekrath or something.The problem is he keeps casting a spell called "finger of death" on me and I keep dying.Is there any way to counteract this spell?Also can I learn this finger of death spell, will my sorcerer be able to learn it?It's a really good spell.

And there's another secret door beside this one that I can't open,how do you open this?

the key to that door is in another dungeon and is called the Sewer Key

as for the FoD:

good saving throws or a "Death Ward" spell

You don't have to fight this Mekrath chap; if you offer to fetch his mirror for him, he will release Ha'erdalis and you can get on with the game. There isn't much in the way of help I can offer against such a spell; just try and keep your saving throws as low as possible through items (for example, the ring of protection +2) and potions and cross your fingers when he first starts chanting it. The other door leads to an illithid (mind-flayer) lair and the key to that is in the Windspear Hills and is called the Sewer Key as Lord Shield says; but this is a quest for later on in the game and should not be tackled at an early stage.

Clerics and Druids can cast a level 4 spell called Death Ward. Cast it on your tanks or whoever appropriate. Mages have a level 5 spell called Spell Immunity, cast this spell and select the school of Necromancy. It will only protect the Mage who casted it.

Yes, yes. It is a level 7 Mage spell.

It's a really good spell.

Correct, it is lvl 8. It is called Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting. A good spell indeed, but I like more the spells that insta-kills, like Disintegrate, Finger of Death, etc. It is also fun with spells that deals out ALOT of damage, but not necessarily kills, like the ToB-spell Dragon's Breath (20d10, IIRC). My favourite way of dealing with mekrath when at a low level is say your in the wrong place... and when he tells you to get out just get prepared and bombard him with everything you've got [img]smile.gif[/img] Usually he still gives out a fair bit of power before dying.
