My year ran out on my work PC, so I just ordered Norton 2004 Professional Edition. Well when I went to install it, it said it recognized a previous version of Norton (I had the 2003 on there still) and would I like to switch, I of course clicked YES, and it loaded. After the restart, I got error boxes, with links in said error boxes. Went to the links and it mostly told me that I did not get a successful install, and I needed to uninstall the previous version first, then re-install. Sigh.. So did it, then got the same fishing error box, this time with a different error number, but also a link with it. So I clicked on link. It said that the Windows Auto Update is the problem, you know, when you have it set on your PC so any Windows Critical Updates come along, it will automatically notify you.. Anyways, so I have to now uninstall, once again, the new Norton and also uninstall the Windows Update thingy. Blah! Much time later, after many restarts which took forever (old suck PC, crappa dial up at work too), I was able to start fresh and finally got the new Norton on there, and also re-installed the Windows Auto Update.

What a pain in the butt though! Just wanted to post this because maybe some of yall's registrations to Norton are almost up, and wanting you to know what types of problems you may run into upgrading the dang thing!

Wierd! I've never had much problem with re-installing good ol' Norton. I did get a notice right at first that I had to uninstall the older version.

Well I reinstalled/reloaded completely and still got the error. I will say though, not only did I have a Windows Update feature, but it was needing me to update as well at the time. I wonder if it wasn't having the Update feature, but having it when it was currently needing to Update? It could have been that, but who knows. Again just wanted to mention it.

You'll hate to hear this LadyZ, but the paid subscription is not needed. You can DL the virus definitions off of their site directly. You just have to remember to do it your self. You can even DL a newer AV engine as well (provided it works with your version)

Funny.

I don't use any anti-virus software except the online one. (housecall)

Actually thats wrong. The newer versions of the intelligent updates require an active subscription for them to be installed. Has been that way for a while now.

As for you LadyZekke, try this.

1 Uninstall NAV 2004 Pro using Add Remove Programs. Or you can have a look at this document.

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...11011006?Open.

Also if your having problems installing a new software package you may want to call Tech Support. They should be more than happy to help you install.

2. Download RNAV2003.exe from the Symantec Website.

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...114452606?Open

3. Run it and it will remove all prevoius files from NAV 2003 that may be left over.

4. Restart the computer

5. Install NAV 2004 again.

If you have further troubles can you PM me the exact error message you get and I will have our tech guys look at it. (P.s I work at the Symantec Sydney office so I can do it pretty quickly for you )
