The best i've found so far is the robe of vecna with Bracers AC3.Is there anything more protective to look forward to? My character is a human swashbuckler/mage (thief/mage).
Also, are there any thief masks in the game....i need a hat!
Thx, white heron

I think that is the best you can get. I haven't found anything better for "armor", but you can give your mage a shield (or can a thief not use a shield?) and this will get the armor class down a bit.......not sure about the "mask"

I'm not sure if it gives you any bonuses but the Mask of King Strom III is wearable by all.

Theives (Imoen and Nalia) can't use Shields. I haven't found much but some robes. Same as for cleric/mage, but can use a shield... And what happend to staffs giving some AC bonus. They should...

Theives can use a buckler. There is a +2 one somewhere.
There is the "Shadow Armor", same as BG1 available off of somebodys body. Maybe the guy who kidnapped Haer'Dalis has it.

What shield are you thinking of?...i think thieves can use small shields cant they? - is there a mage shield/buckler or something?(trouble is i like to use both a short bow AND katana).
Maybe there's a golden girdle somewhere too.,That'd help.
thx

I've heard that the Mask of King Strom protects from critical hits.

There is other armor later in the game that allows you to cast spells, but it doesn't come until much later and I don't know that it is better than Bracer's AC 3.

<< Spoiler >>

The Mask of King Strom is in the Windspear Hills.
One set of armor is found just before you head out to battle Irenicus.

You get the real elven armor if you go back to the exit of the underdark and kill the drow who are fighting some regular elves there...the mages and theives can wear it without penalty.

Correct. You can wear Drow Chainmail in the Underdark, and Elven Chain and Bladesinger Chain outside. There's a bug that allows you to wear Drow Chain outside, but it's kind of cheezy.
