Moni: I'd say false (but there are always eccentrics)
Djinn Raffo: false, true (just a guess)
Sir Taliesin: true - too short & succint to be otherwise!

As for my story - it's false! Well, mostly true except that the 'friend' in the story was actually my wife then - we were on our honeymoon!

Another thing that I embellished was me making my way to her - the torrent of water made it quite impossible to look for anyone else, or to swim, for that matter. All I could do was point my feet downstream (as instructed) and hope for the best. At any rate she got plucked out of the water first, but not after sustaining an nasty bruise after she collided with a rock.

But all other details (including the hot tub) are true.

I'm sure that everyone around here worried about me, so i'll kick in another (fake ????) story.

I was on vacation with my parents and we knew that friends of my parents were camping nearby. We were in France BTW. So we went to visit them, and there we decided we would go and have a swim in the river nearby. That river was freaking cold, so it was not well.. not a pleasant thing to do, although it was warm. After a while we went back to the cars (with which we came there; DUH!), only to find out that the lock of their car (a white Volvo) was forced. A bag was missing.
True or false??

His name? Link......

My story was false. She learned it from me. The true story was that I came into work one morning and a friend of mine, who was an old Vietnam Vet, came up to me and shook my hand. He said "Congradulations! Your going to Saudi." I said "No I not. No one from my unit has called me and gave the code word." He said "Iread it in the paper. You unit has been activated to go to Saudi." He showed me the paper and sure enough, at the bottom of page 1 it said my unit had been called to active duty. The unit never called anyone and said the code word. We all found out about it the same way. One week later I was at Ft. Bragg NC waiting to go to Saudi.

Never understood why he congradulated me. That was the longest week of my life!

Sir Taliesin,
You are lucky to be back and in good health!
My son's father (stationed @ Ft. Bragg with the 82nd Airborn) went to Saudi right after Desert Storm on a "peaceful" mission.
He came back so full of some new strange and unidentifiable strain of cancer that he was dead withing 6 or 8 weeks of his return...literally eaten alive from the inside out.
We were divorced and living in different states and the local military base (Davis Monthan AFB) sent officers to our door to give us the news.
We were given airfare and an escort to attend his funeral in his homestate of Indiana where his mother gave us all the details of his sudden illness and the military's concern about it. They had one uniformed officer "guarding" the body and interrupting anyone's attempts to touch it (with polite distracting conversation) with the exception of Brian's wife who had held his hands all throughout his short hospitalization.
Their daughter had just turned two.
One of the officers that visited our home, fell so hard for my son, (who is an extremely likable young man) that their family sent him expensive gifts (computer, printer, mountain bike, game system, etc.) quite often for the rest of that year.

Nice to have you with us.

Moni

P.S.
Is my above story Truth or Trash? I'll tell you now...its truth.

*HUGS*

Moni, sorry to hear that. I have had no problems so far, knock on wood (bangs clinched fist against his own head). Though I know people who have had problems. Mostly with respritory (sp) infections. I did come back with one certain problem, now that I think about it. My belly keeps getting bigger and bigger. Don't quite understand why. Maybe I need to talk to Veterns Affairs about this... let's see what's that number... Oh Cya later!
