Hmm we share some stuff there Sir Tainly. F1 is a passion of mine and F1 mag is about the only mag I ever buy. Do you play GP3 btw? Shogun is one of the best books I've ever read although Clavell claims it as fiction but it's based loosely on fact. Apocolypse now is right up there for me too. Time Team can be good. Risk is an old favourite of mine as well. A few shared interests there.

That's a rather long list ya got going there, but I'll see what I can do.

Sounds like we do share a lot of interests Charlie,

Yes I do have GP3, haven't played it much as I had gorged myself on GP2, and found it didn't give me enough new. I did quite a few mods for GP2 so I really was a full on GP2 fan for a long while.

I'm half way thro' Shogun and loving it, so much so that I have also bought Tai-Pan, but its just sitting on the shelf at the mo'. Another author writing on a similar theme is Dov Silverman, who wrote "Tairo" which is also quite good.

I'm a big wargaming nut too, so classics such as Risk are always come in my top games list.

Have to duck away for a mo, the work monster approacheth, -my boss

Of all the Clavell books Shogun stands head and shoulders above the rest imho. Tai Pan and King Rat were ok. As I say it's not strictly fiction as you will realise if you read any Japanese history (another passion of mine.) It's one of very few books that I've read over and over (I may even read it again now) and it is DEFINITELY BETTER the second time around, I'd suggest you do the same (with the utmost respect) to fully appreciate and understand some of the finer nuances. The story (if your interested) is based around the first Englishman to arrive there in 1601 by the name of Will Adams (fairly sure I'm correct there but it's been a long long time.) The Japanese names are also slight transpositions of the real characters ie Toranaga = Tokugawa, etc etc.

Anyway, I digress. If this book stirs your interst in the Japanese and their military history (as it might) then mail me and I'll recommend some stuff for you that is equally enthralling but totally true.

Christ it's years and years since I played Risk, Campaign was another game that I used to play a little in my youth. You tried it?

Oops, meant to say, I used to paint military figurines (primarily Japanese, but some others, progressed from dragons etc) and I used to attend shows etc where the figures etc would be displayed.(I won a few painting competitions as well many moons ago.) Quite often there would be a wargaming section going in tandem. Do you ever attend these things and what era are you interested in with your wargaming adventures?
