Help needed please - Fallout 3 file missing
Basically, I installed Fallout 3, and got the error box - "unable to locate component. Application failed to start because d3dx9_38.dll was not found. Re-install suggested."
A re-install or two has done nothing. I've been told it is possible to download something to fix this, but the only site I have found so far tried to install a virus on my computer instead (huzzah for good antivirus programs). Any ideas? Cheers DS

Off the bat, that's a directx issue. Sounds like corruption in directx. Upgrade to the latest version (it's 9c atm iirc) and see what happens. Or look into a directx repair tool released by microsoft. Do not download indivudal .dll files from the web that claim to solve this issue. They'll only screw with it more and possible fux it up.

I did that, and now it starts to run, but crashes on the black loading screen at the start.

Re: Help needed please - Fallout 3 file missing
Your video card is a bit low for the "Recommended" requirements, but does meet the "Minimum" requirements. I would recommend loading the latest drivers for your video card from Nvidia, and trying again. Do you get any faults when running DirectX diagnostics?

Re: Help needed please - Fallout 3 file missing
I installed the newest drivers, and it stopped my video card from working.
No issues with DirectX.

Delete those drivers, and reinstall the Nvidia software from the install CD.

Re: Help needed please - Fallout 3 file missing
I'm not getting an error message. It jsut stops responding on a black screen when it starts up. No message.
Also, I don't have an install CD here.
