the following dialog is fictional, and is created based on my own experience. It is not intended to degrade females, but rather serve as a good laugh, so enjoy

me: Honey I thought we were gonna meet at 5? where were you?
girl: me and mother went shopping
me: ok, but didn't she know that we are going to see a movie at 5?
girl: yes she does
me: then she still asked you to shopping at five?
girl: no, she didn't
me: what do you mean she didn't? didn't you just say you went shopping with her at 5?
girl: no! we went shopping before 5, and came back.
me: after 5?
girl: no, before 5.
me: then I dont understand, why didn't you meet me at the theatre?
girl: (sigh) did you listen to me? how come you never listen?
me: oh wow, wait a minute, honey, I am trying very hard to understand you here.
girl: (cold voice) great, so now you cannot understand me.
me: oh com'on, I didn't mean that. I can totally understand you...
girl: you think you understand me? I told you I hate to hear that, you DON'T understand me, OK?
me: ...
me: Okay
me: ...
girl: why aren't you talking?
me: I am waiting for your answer on why you didn't show up
girl: (heavy sigh) I told you that I went shopping
me: ok ... honey, can you tell me what happened during your shopping?
girl: ok, there was this annual sale on Ross, the clothes are OK in it, but the price is great. so me and mother decided to take a look. We stopped by at Starbucks to get something to drink. Oh, did I tell you that they changed the waiteress in the Starbucks on Geary? I talked to her, and ...
me: (trying hard to remain patient) mmm, what does it have to do with you not showing up?
girl: I am trying to tell you! (exaggerated groan)
me: ok ok, I am sorry to interupt, continue please.
girl: (sigh) ok, so I talked to her. She was really mean, and didn't even pay attention to our conversation, and she put so much sugar in my drink it tasted sour. She must hate me or something (look depressed)
me: aww (begin to have some mega-theories on what happened) I am sorry. Honey, I am sure she likes you. Everyone likes you, you are so great. (hugs) you just have to give her time, you know?
girl: (nod)
me: so... is this why you didn't show up?
girl: ... yeah?
me: ... okay
girl: ok

Yeah I've had a few conversations like that with women over the phone they just don't get to the point you are looking for but rather like to give the details around the point. It's like a biological differintce embedded in their system. I think it might be the main reason why they spend so much time just TALKING to eachother because most of the time they're trying to understand what the other is talking about not being sexist just tossing out some facts and theories...

Smile and nodding usually works for me...I developed this system of only picking up on the main points of what she is saying - then when she gives me the "Are you even listening?" question, I just reply that part of my mind where she was talking and tell her the main points...it's great...then I just do what I'm gonna do and quasi-listen to her at the same time...but yeah, I hate it when I say meet me here at this time and she doesn't...even worse when I can't meet her, though...

Hmmm...*sends anonymous mail to BK's girl... *

I hate waiting for someone and having them not show up... then not have a reason involving hospitalization or fire!
