Ust'Natha--Mind Flayer Dungeon Help!!

I took the Mind Flayer Dungeon quest from the Matron Mother. Once I got the Master Brain I rested for 16 hours in the dungeon to regain hit points, and then Phaere orbed in and told me that I failed the quest and I was forced to kill her. I returned to the town and everyone is now attacking me and I can't find the Matron Mother to give her the brain. What did I do wrong?

You just spent too much time on the quest... I think you're alloted like 30 hours, or 3 days, for that one...

Yeah that's a good idea.. see, what I love to do is challenge myself and see how far I can go through all three of the caverns without resting at all... it's interesting, not too hard on Core... but I'm on Insane this time through, with my party of Sorcerer, Berserker, Swashbuckler, Aerie, Jaheira, and Mazzy for now... might trade her for Imoen though... but anyway, on Insane those beholders kick your ass if you're not prepared (like with that shield from Deidre, or the cloak from the fish people)
