Noob Question
I just started NWN again, after soo many years, and have a Rogue (5) Assassin (2) Fighter (1)
Anyway, question re: 3rd Ed. Rules. When im rolling say a pick lock check, how many dice, and how many sides do they have is it that I roll? Eg - Pick lock = 16+14 = 30 Vs. 30 DC = Success. The 16 part, how many dice is this? And I know the 14 comes from my level. Edit - bit of char advice needed also. Its been years since i played any 3DnD game, so im not powerplaying. But any advice on where to go now? It's either Rogue or Assasin. I took the first two levels of Ass. for Death Strike and Ghostly visage, and 1 level fighter for the extra feat. But ive saved just before I leveled, so ill see. Anyway, where would you go from here on out? My hench is a Cleric.

Re: Noob Question
I'd recommend staying with Rogue, because:
1. You get special rogue-only feats after level 10. 2. You get more skill points. 3. The paralysis from Death Strike only works when the target is unaware of you. 4. Poison was never really implemented very well, which makes some assassin abilities useless. 5. The spells you get as an assassin aren't that great. |

Re: Noob Question
Well stuff is kinda coming back to me now.
I should of took ranger earlier on (1) level for the free feats I get, which I later spent points on. Oh well... And Rogue Assasin im still not sure, at the moment, im pure pawnage. My cleric tanks, I attack from the side, sneak attack + death attack at the moment seems like pure win, I'm one shotting most mobs. Any detailed info on the assasin/rogue feats?

Re: Noob Question
The bonus feats I mentioned? Here's what I remember:
- Crippling Strike, drains 2 pts Strength on successful Sneak Attack. I'm pretty sure it doesn't stack with itself for multiple strikes. - Opportunist, gives a +4 bonus to all your attacks of opportunity. - Skill Mastery, allows you to take 20 on rogue skills (Open Lock, Set Trap, etc.) while in combat. - Slippery Mind, gives you two chances to resist any mind-affecting spell. - Improved Evasion, allows full evasion of certain spells with a successful reflex save and half damage on a failed save. - Defensive Roll, allows a reflex save for half damage if an attack would kill you. Usable once per day. You get one of these at Rogue level 10, and another every 3 levels thereafter. |

Re: Noob Question
All ok, none I would say are particularly brilliant....
With the exception of maybe improved evasion? Skill mastery, hmm, id prefer to take 20 out of combat. Any skills you think are worth having? Any chance you could list the assasin feats? And I'd really love to know how often you get feats, at what level. Does that depend on class? I'm 7 Rogue 3 Assassin 1 Fighter.

Re: Noob Question
-Improved Evasion is definitely worth it, I generally take Crippling Strike and Slippery Mind as well. As a side note, you already take 20 when using rogue skills out of combat.
-Skills, well, it depends on your class. The "Recommended" button will generally give you abilities helpful to the class in which you're leveling up. If you notice you're not using some skills much, then you might wish to ignore them in the future. -Assassins do not get any unique feats. -For most classes, feats come every 3 levels (3, 6, 9, etc.) Fighters and Champions of Torm get a bonus feat from a special list every 2 levels. Wizards get bonus feats from their own list every 5 levels. All classes, once they hit epic level, get bonus feats on a class-specific schedule and from a class-specific list, but that's irrelevant to you (for now.) |
