the missing number is 51, the sequence is (x2)+5 and (x2)-3 for alternate numbers

thus

(1 x 2) + 5 = 7
(7 x 2) - 3 = 11
(11 x 2) + 5 = 27
(27 x 2) - 3 = 51
(51 x 2) + 5 = 107

Very good SirT. I'm usually good at these but this one had me stumped. I was looking at Base 8, base 9, base 12, periodic table and roman numerals.

Now I've been told that's not the answer she's looking for. Bummer

Remember series are deceptive. There can be a huge number of potential answers.
Although this one gives the previous and after number, there still leaves many possibilities....

I was sure I posted the answer yesterday. It must have got lost somewhere.

It's to do with the number of syllables in numbers.

One - 1
seven - 2
eleven - 3
twenty seven - 4
seventy seven - 5
one hundred and seven - 6

I told her that I thought your answer was far more elegant.

No I didn't, I didn't even tell her that it was your answer. I took all of the credit myself. Well, I have to impress her somehow.

Yep same as adding 6 then 4, then 16 then 14, then 66, then 64

That is cheap. You could take two hundred and seven for 6 syllables or one hundred and five for 5 syllables. Sir Tainly's is a lot more elegant.
