In trying to find some problems to fix on my machine, (XP), I discovered an account called asp.net machine A, limited access account, pasword protected. What the heck? Why is that there? Is that spyware? It does not appear in the user section as an account to choose for login, but it is in the user account changes section. I think I will try deleting it. I went to asp.net to see what it was, and it seems to be nothing I care for.

Good you were able to delete it. You have a firewall right? If so, surprised something got in there, and not spyware. Uggg all these viruses out lately, that blaster bastaid ruined my week at work! Well let's just hope that it was just a one-time deal, and you deleted it, so all should be OK.

Great thinking Luvian! I hae verified that it does not return. I have also deleted all files that would delete under the asp.net heading. I assume safety now. I would like to request that all XP users go into "Change an Account" and see if you have an account hidden there that you do not know, then return and report.

I think the asp.net is what microsoft would use for realtime online assistance so they can see what you see and have a pointer on your screen to show you what you need to do should you ever have any problems. Not sure, actually, but if my memory serves me at all then thats what it should be.

LOL!

ASP.net is Microsoft's Server-side scripting technogy that allows you to create dynamic web pages and web-based applications. Have you never surfed to a URL that ended in .asp? That's an asp application.

Do you have MS's .net framework installed? That contains the ASP.net development tools and run-time environment. Although I don't have ASP.net installed (I use the old plain ASP) I am guessing that maybe that creates a user account although if it goes away when you reboot it could be something that's trying to make you think it's an ASP.net official thing.

I don't know but read about asp.net to find out if it should create a user account.

It does create an account on Windows XP.

Not to worry Larry. It's created by default. (as Donut's link probably will tell you )
