Well you don't say where this came from, but it was in the papers/internet/TV so it must be true. Do you know the meaning of the phrase 'gross generalisation'? I daresay if any of us rude brits had posted something about American tourists we would be swamped with cries of 'Anti-Amercan'.

Yes, some brit holiday makers can behave badly, but so do many others.

Perhaps I should add to this list of horrors/generalisations:
German tourists nick all the sunbeds
American tourists sit on buses pointing at every other building going 'gee, is that St Paul's Cathedral?', expect to get table service in pubs, talk loudly, and wear shorts to dinner.

See my point?

I'm not fluent in any language except English (Romanian is my second best language but nowhere near fluency), but I always make the effort and know a few phrases in more than 10 other languages. I don't think I'm that unusual to be quite honest. If you go to Ibiza or Faliraki (Lager lout stomping grounds these days) and do a survey of the locals I daresay you would come up with less than favourable reviews, but I bet the survey wasn't put to people in cities or less noisy resorts.

I am sick of hearing anti-Brit stuff. And I don't do subtitles.

Actually Epona I got this from a British paper, the banner said "Independant" something or other, but I didn't pay much attention to the rest of it...let me see if I can find it again. The whole reason I posted it was because I got it from the British site. I had expected some commentary from the Brits about it and I was surprised that they didn't do an OpEd piece on it. Note! I did not say I believed it nor did I proclaim it the word of God, All I did was say that I was under the impression that the world opinion was that americans were the rudest people and was very surprised to find this article.

Ok the source...rather where I found this article was an online News Paper called "The London Independant" I have no knowledge of the history of this site, its credibility or the veracity of anything it reports.....just thought this was an odd article. Even if it is true, it means nothing about any particular American, German or Brittish person.

The point I wanted to make was that no matter where you found this, had I, as a non-American, posted something about how awful Americans were in any circumstance, I would have been jumped on for being Anti-American. Had this been posted by a fellow Brit, I would not feel so prickly about it. I thought that you of all people would understand this Magik. Oh the irony.

It's true, all true... I am a meanie

Good point Eppers, or Mr Capone, or Nigel, or whoever you are But everyone knows that Americans are perfect (not dissin americans, I was just making a funny )

Seriously though, after working in a camera/film processing shop for 4 years I've served alot of overseas visitors and pommies weren't nearly as bad as some of the others.

Yanks were ok but tended to talk alot, Indians and Pakistanis tended to want everything for nothing and there was this one Asian guy that got so angry at me for not being able to understand what he was saying that he stormed out of the shop and kicked over a display stand on his way out

I guess my point is that you can't group a nation of people under the same banner
