Hello, Just thought I would mention I got W & W working on my 1.67 gigahz gateway laptop. I tried getting it going on my desktop running XP home edition but it run a few minutes then locks up. Then I saw a note from Activisions tech support saying it won't run on XP.

Thought I would see if it would run on the laptop and it runs fine, except for no sound.

Welcome to the board randynovotny!

It runs fine on Windows XP if you set the compatiblity of W&W to Windows 95... other than that I don't know exactly how to solve your no sound issue...

Welcome to the board =)

I just got W&W running on an ancient Dell Latitude (650 MHz) in a little Win95 partition and have the same problem: no sound. I suspect it's the worthless soundcard on the machine.

Welcome to the boards, randynovotny! May you spread the joy of life in the Gael Serran to many unbelievers...

Sad to say, but you can pretty much discount what Activision support says the game can and can't do (or be run on). We've been able to run it on XP here for some time, along with many other things.

Check that Tech Tips thread for issues related to Win 2K and XP -- in addition to Win95 compatibility, there are other things you'll want to consider like virtual memory size, virtualdubbing your video files, defragging, and halting other processes.

And be sure to come back and let us know how your game is going!
