Playing the game for 4 hours today and two things happened regarding Minsc and the law of averages. Minsc 2800000 pts whatever level that is. Silver sword and one of the belts of strength.
Minsc v Gibberling 4 critical misses. 4! .. 4 on the bloody run. "I need a bigger blade" In my coach mode I nearly substituted Minsc to the Copper cornet subs bench in anger. Boo could have done better. Minsc v Lich golden arm and torso Liches both killed with the very first hit of anyone of my party members in the conflict. Then the trifecta happened with kangaxx ... his first coming was dismissed also in one hit !!!! Minsc you bewdy! From zero to hero. Any one else got any statistical anomalies they want to share?

I've got a screenshot of Korgan getting 3 Critical Misses in a row--against the unconscious Guard Captain in Galvena's Festhall. Personally, I think that trumps Minsc vs. Gibberling, because even a Gibberling can dodge!
I also rolled a Dwarven Fighter/Cleric with stats of 12/17/19/11/18/9. Doesn't look like much, until I point out that that was a natural roll. I think the odds of maxing out in 3 stats (and the important ones, too) on the same roll are something like 3 million to 1.

Actually, it's a 1 in 3078 chance. Happy rolling.

You select your race and class first, and the game won't allow you to "roll" a score that is outside your class limits. The chances of 17 DEX are slightly increased.
Nice roll anyway! |

Hence the 1 in 3078 chance.
Dwarves have a 1 in 9 chance to roll 17 DEX. 1 in 18 for 18/~~ STR and 1 in 19 for 19 CON. |

I dont think that correct Dundee.. doesn't the game roll 3d6 like you do in Pen&paper? If it does you would have to roll 6 with each die in order to get a natural 18.. that would mean 1/6*1/6*1/6 = 1/216.. the same for con and dex meaning the total chance would be (1/216)^3 = 1/10077696...
This doesnt count that you cant roll below certain numbers though..

The game doesn't actually roll 3D6, it rolls 4D6, and then ignores the lowest die. That's why, when you're rolling stats, you see a lot more 18's go by than you do 3's: The only way you can roll a 3 in a stat is with
1 1 1 1 Whereas any of the following 21 permutations will get you an 18: 1 6 6 6 6 1 6 6 6 6 1 6 6 6 6 1 2 6 6 6 6 2 6 6 6 6 2 6 6 6 6 2 .... 5 6 6 6 6 5 6 6 6 6 5 6 6 6 6 5 6 6 6 6. Although I, too, am not sure what the game does with race & class max & minimums. If, as Hank says, the game rolls a stat that would be illegal for the character, does it simply roll again? Or does it simply impose a bonus/penalty to the stat, such as a Dwarf's +1 CON? Perhaps it does the former process for the class, and the latter process for the race. Come to think of it, my good-stats brag wasn't all that hot. Rolling nice stats on a Dwarven Fighter/Cleric is nothing compared to doing the same thing with a Human Thief--the only thing you're assured of is at least 9 DEX. Then again, compare that with a Ranger/Cleric: It's almost literally impossible to roll a bad one.

It seems clear that the game doesn't re-roll an 'illegal' stat, but rather shifts the value to the closest legal value. That's why classes with high minimums have higher average stat rolls. All rolls falling beneath the minimum were automatically boosted up, without any affect on the other-stats' rolls. If you rolled low on stats with minimums, and you rolled high on stats that can be anything 3-18, then you'll have overall more high value stats.
