Please help me defeat Balor! Thanks

Okay you veterans out there..I find Balor impossible to defeat, though you have done it. I have equipped the fighters with weapons that can damage Balor, cast haste, chant, bless, call upon holy might and even invisibility, free action and chaotic commands on my party as possible, and positioned them optimally for instant combat, but to no avail. There are 2 main reasons why i got totally wiped.

1)Balor can cast stun, fear and hold at will rapidly. I find that no immunity spells exists for stun and fear->cos the guy that got free action/chaotic commands also turned and run away, and spellcasters never have time to cast dispel or resist before getting spelled themselves.

2)Balor has too high a magical resistance. Jaheira's magical resistance spell can bring it down to 20% but she succeeded once in 10 tries but by then everyone's held.

Can anyone offer me very specific advice on this? (especially an *immune* fear/stun/hold solution, otherwise victory might be impossible)

What kind of party do you have and what are their HP ranges/levels.

It's not much, but you didn't mention casting the level 2 mage spell Resist Fear before the battle. That makes party members immune to the effects of fear types things. However, Chaotic Commands might make them resistant to the effects of Resist Fear, I don't know. Like I said, it's not much but it's the best I can think of.

Also.. I forget where Balor is (which is ironic because he was my main character's Most Powerful Vanquished for a long time), but I always liked having Keldorn with the Holy Avenger. If getting Keldorn and the HA sword is an option, that gives him 50% magic resistance which might help.

If all else fails, the trick most often used on Kangaxx the Demi-Lich might work.. a scroll of Protection from Magic (2 at the Adventure Mart) makes one character totally immune to all magic for the duration.

Perhaps a spell to disable Balor's casting? Insect Plague, Silence, or Power Word, Silence come to mind.

This is all just brainstorming, like I said I personally don't remember where Balor is, or else I might could help more.

Here are a few strategies on how to beat the balor from others on this forum.

Much appreciation for your efforts, esp Memnoch..just got Balor defeated. However it's sad to say that it's because Jaheira managed to do a magic resistance on it first and subsequently Balor did not really fire off stun/fear/hold on the rest of the members except Minsc, who was stunned meat for Balor's claws while the rest of the party pound away with magic missiles and swords. Resist fear can dispel fear but not immunize the characters and if the computer were cleverer or i'm less lucky then this battle might really be unwinnable. (my party's at 6th level mage/cleric spells)..

Hope no other *sicko* in the rest of the game wastes my time..

well... i just took my main charecter at transformed into "The Slayer"

After reading this i realisied that i was very lucky...
everyone in my party had fear,stun etc...
except edwin and imoen that was hidding in a corner.
Then Imoen fired a crhonomatic orb (spelling?)and balor magic recistanc failed and his
save vs spell so he was turned to stone and fell into pieces...
